Kawasaki, Kanagawa and Willis, Texas – A groundbreaking ceremony held on February 15th formally marked the start of construction work on the Montgomery County Power Station, an advanced combined cycle power plant for which Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) will supply a 450MW steam turbine and generator (STG) through its US subsidiary, Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation. The plant, owned and operated by Entergy Texas, Inc. in the USA, is scheduled to commence commercial operation in May 2021. Toshiba ESS will ship the STG in September 2019.

The plant is a 1,000MW class combined cycle power plant, which improves generating efficiency and reduces fuel consumption by deploying more than one power generating system. Toshiba ESS previously received orders from McDermott to supply STGs to the St. Charles Power Station in 2016, to the Lake Charles Power station in 2017 and also to the Ninemile Point Unit 6, which already started operation in 2014.

In the USA, it is expected that construction projects of gas-fired power plants including combined cycle power plants will continue to replace aging power plants and coal-fired power plants.

“We are proud to be part of this project that will provide greater reliability in power supply,” Mr. Takao Konishi, Vice President of the Thermal & Hydro Power Systems & Services Div., Toshiba ESS, said. “I am confident that the advanced technology and excellent performance of our equipment will contribute to supplying a clean and reliable source of power for Southeast Texas.”

Toshiba ESS will expand sales by continuing to supply highly efficient STGs for new thermal power plants and by further reinforcing its plant life-cycle service business of installed units.
