Technology Alliance with Shandong Energy Group for Pure Hydrogen Fuel Cell System

KAWASAKI, JAPAN―Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (hereinafter, “Toshiba ESS”) announced today that Toshiba ESS and Shandong Energy Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Shandong Energy”) in China have concluded a technical alliance agreement regarding a pure hydrogen fuel cell system. This agreement is to provide the manufacturing and testing technology from Toshiba ESS’s stationary pure hydrogen fuel cell system for China.
Shandong Energy is a company whose head office is located in Shandong Province in China and their business areas are coal, electricity, the chemical industry, industrial equipment and renewable energy. Recently, the company is concentrating on the renewable energy business, such as solar power and wind power generation, as well as the hydrogen energy business. Toshiba ESS will support the development of a stationary pure hydrogen fuel cell system for Shandong Energy.
China aims to reduce its carbon footprint by more than 65% compared to 2005 and make it account for around 25% of the primary energy consumption of non-fossil energy by 2030. Moreover, China has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, and it is expected that to promote the utilization of by-product hydrogen in chemical factories, the demand of hydrogen fuel cell system will increase.
Toshiba ESS would like to contribute to the spread of a pure hydrogen fuel cell system in China, where the hydrogen business market is expected to increase rapidly because of the environmental policy in China.
