Tsuruga JAPAN—Tsuruga City in Fukui Prefecture and Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (hereinafter “Toshiba ESS”) have announced today that they will start demonstration of a hydrogen supply chain model utilizing “H2One™ Multi Station” which can fill fuel cell vehicles and supply to electricity with green hydrogen. In this demonstration, they will aim to expand green hydrogen utilizations in various newly added applications as a VPP* resource and hydrogen delivery functions. H2One™ Multi Station has operated on November 2020 and filled fuel cell vehicles with hydrogen and supplied electricity to buildings and electric vehicles.

Now, Fukui Prefecture is promoting the “Reinan smart energy area project,” which aims to demonstrate comfortable life, disaster resilience, and environmentally friendly city in cooperation with cities in the Reinan area. As part of this projects, The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter “Kansai Electric Power”) is conducting demonstration experiments to build VPP using electric vehicles, solar power generation, and hydrogen.

H2One™ Multi Station will contribute to make the smart energy community by participating as one of the distributed power resources of this VPP. During the project, whenever Kansai Electric Power demands to increase electricity, hydrogen will be produced from water using an electrolyzer by H2One™ Multi Station. And whenever Kansai Electric Power demands lower electricity, fuel cells with using stored hydrogen which produce by H2One™ Multi Station supply the necessary electricity.

In addition, with the newly hydrogen delivering function, H2One™ Multi Station’s green hydrogen will be able to utilize in no hydrogen infrastructure areas. And also the green hydrogen in bundled cylinders with newly developed simple hydrogen filling devices will be transported and supplied to fill fuel cell forklifts in Tsuruga City, the neighboring areas and Reinan area. The compacting the hydrogen filling devices can be transported with general transport vehicles.
Through the construction of a hydrogen supply chain, Tsuruga City and Toshiba ESS will promote expanding renewable energy and realize a decarbonized society.
