・Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions to retrofit STGs in upgrade of coal-fired power plant
・Boost plant output and efficiency without increase in coal consumption or emissions

KAWASAKI-Toshiba Energy Systems and Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) today announced that its Australian subsidiary, Toshiba International Corporation Pty. Ltd. (TIC), has won a major contract to retrofit steam turbines and generators (STGs) as part of the upgrade of Bayswater Power Station in Muswellbrook, Australia, from AGL Macquarie Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Australia-based AGL Energy Ltd.

As the original equipment manufacturer of the STGs currently installed at Bayswater Power Station, Toshiba ESS is ideally placed to deliver upgrade solutions that will increase operating efficiency and ensure continued high reliability for the life of the plant through to its planned closure. All key equipment will be supplied from Toshiba ESS’s factory in Japan, with delivery of the main components for the first unit scheduled for early 2019. Site work is planned to follow, in line with AGL’s major maintenance program and subject to regulatory approvals.

The upgrade project will improve Bayswater’s output and efficiency and will provide an additional 100MWs of much needed output to the grid, without any increase in coal consumption or emissions. TIC won the order on the strength of Toshiba ESS’s world leading high efficiency steam path design and TIC’s strong local service capability.

“We are pleased to have been given this opportunity,” said Takao Konishi, Director, Vice President of the Thermal & Hydro Power Systems & Services Division of Toshiba ESS, “I’m confident our technologies and equipment will contribute to Australia by supplying stable energy.”

Commenting on the contract, Doug Jackson, Executive General Manager of Group Operations of AGL Energy Limited said, “AGL is pleased to be working with Toshiba International Corporation to deliver an efficiency upgrade at the Bayswater Power Station with no further increase in coal consumption or emissions. This will deliver further reliability and security of supply to NSW electricity customers.”

Going forward, Toshiba ESS and TIC will continue to strengthen Toshiba Group’s presence in the Australian energy market. Their focus will be providing high efficiency, low emissions thermal plant, pumped hydro equipment, and battery storage and IoT solutions, all supporting the transition to a network with lower emissions and more renewables.
