・To research optimal operating conditions depending on weather fluctuations and demand forecasts of electricity and steam

Kawasaki, Japan — Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Toshiba ESS) today announced that the company has won an order to research optimizing the operation of in-house power plant privately owned by Kuraray Co., Ltd., a major Japanese chemical manufacturer. Toshiba ESS will research how to improve operation efficiency of the whole power plant using IoT Technology by December 2018.

At a power plant owned by Kuraray, several power generating equipment supply electricity and steam for the manufacturing of products. Toshiba ESS will conduct a data analysis to optimally improve operation efficiency of the plant by clarifying weather fluctuations, demanding forecasts of electricity and steam, and applying operation constraints of each power generating equipment at the plant. In addition to evaluate power generating equipment performance by taking advantage of the equipment manufacturer’s strength, Toshiba ESS will establish a pressure predictive model for the steam to be used in Kuraray’s manufacturing line and also calculate its optimal output command value.

Toshiba ESS’s data analysis technology and IoT solutions for power plants have received high marks from Kuraray, which led to the order.

“As a global plant manufacturer, I’m confident that we will offer IoT solutions that contribute to improving plant performance and optimizing operation,” said Mr. Takao Konishi, Director and Vice President of the Thermal & Hydro Power Systems & Services Division at Toshiba ESS. “Toshiba ESS will continue to contribute to creating stable power supplies and reducing the environmental burden by providing new IoT solutions, not only for utilities, but also for industrial power plants.”
