Toshiba Corporation Battery Division
We are conducting a demonstration project in Bangkok, Thailand, for a battery subscription service aimed at electric motorcycle taxi drivers.
This initiative is being advanced by Toshiba Corporation and naturenix inc., battery-tech startup from Shimane University. By combining the long-life performance of our SCiB™ lithium-ion rechargeable batteries with a subscription service, we aim to provide easy-to-adopt electric mobility. The goal is to contribute to the realization of an electrified society.
SCiB™ achieves its long life by using lithium titanium oxide in its negative electrode, allowing it to perform well even in Thailand’s hot climate. Furthermore, this is the first time SCiB™ has been offered in a subscription service*. By having the batteries shared and used to their full potential across the entire community, rather than being owned individually, we can effectively utilize resources and also help reduce waste.
By providing long-life batteries through a long-life system, we will contribute to achieving a sustainable society from both a technological and a service-based approach.
- The demonstration project was conducted from September 2024 to March 2025. The new phase will run from December 2025 through March 2026.
Items used in this demonstration project: a battery pack with Toshiba’s SCiB™ lithium-ion cells, an electric motorcycle, and a charging locker.
