SCiB™ is used because the new locomotive provides flat torque characteristics as well as a considerably higher pull-in torque than a conventional locomotive.

N700S is the world's first high-speed train that is equipped with a self-propelled battery system. In the event of power outages, the system will allow the train to run to a safe place on its own for passenger evacuation.

SCiB™ adopted to energy storage system of battery powered locomotive.

Shin-Tomoe's battery powered locomotive operates with SCiB™.
This locomotive is used to towing the freight car for tunnel construction.
This new system achieved to shorten charging time dramatically, and also improved charging efficiency of regenerative power in comparison to conventional battery system.
In addition, it is free from maintenance such as distilled water refills or ventilation during charging.

Siemens Mobility GmbH

SCiB™ has been adopted by Siemens Mobility GmbH for its railway system "Mireo"

SCiB™ is used as a traction power source for Mireo, a railway system produced by Siemens Mobility GmbH (battery system is mannufactured by OPmobility C-Power).
Many of Europe's regional trains are operated in catenary free areas with diesel engines. But Siemens Mobility GmbH achieves not only zero emission of regional traffic, but also realizes high safety and long life system required for railway systems by using SCiB™ as a traction power source.

SCiB™ is used in the hybrid propulsion system for "TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE"

SCiB™ is adopted for hybrid propulsion system of TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE which is operated by West Japan Railway Company starting June 17, 2017. TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE is a new luxury sleeper train that elegantly captures the concept of
“a hotel moving through the beautiful Japanese landscape – superior quality with a touch of nostalgia.” The train is driven by electric power which is generated by a diesel engine and assisted by SCiB™. During braking, the regenerative energy is stored in SCiB™ and is later used for motor assist during acceleration. This leads to increased energy efficiency and fuel economy, thus contributing to a high environmental performance.
