TOKYO─Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) collaborates with a team at the Department of Pediatrics, Shinshu University Graduate School of Medicine, led by Professor Yozo Nakazawa (hereinafter "Shinshu University"), in a project that has begun collaborative research on an anti-cancer gene delivery technology that will deliver therapeutic genes to cancerous cells in nanosized capsules made with biodegradable lipids (hereinafter "biodegradable liposome". The biodegradable liposomes efficiently deliver the genes to target cells, are well suited to mass production, and are expected to find wide application. This integration of Shinshu University's cancer research and Toshiba's materials research will help to expand gene therapies for cancer(Note 1).

TOKYO─Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) has developed AI with 3D recognition that is capable of measuring distance with the accuracy of a stereo camera(Note 1). It does this by using an image taken with a commercially available camera and applying deep learning analysis to image blurring caused by the camera lens. Eliminating the need for a stereo camera enables to reduce both cost and space.
Toshiba will present the achievements of this AI at the International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV2019) to be held in South Korea on October 30, 2019 from 10:00 am.

TOKYO─Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) has developed a radio wave imaging technology that uses millimeter-wave radar(Note 1) to capture high-definition visualizations of objects concealed within clothing. It can detect dangerous objects, such as weapons and explosives, as people walk through checkpoints in stations, airports, shopping centers and other public spaces, with no need for stop and search, and can be applied to new security support services that do not interrupt traffic flows. Toshiba will present details of the technology at 11:00 AM (6:00 PM, JST) on September 6 at the IRMMW-THz conference in Paris.

TOKYO─Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502), in a collaboration with Johns Hopkins University of the United States, has developed the world's first hardware implementation technique that mimics spatial perception, a fundamental function of the hippocampus, on a neuromorphic chip. This advance opens the way to miniaturizing autonomous mobile robots used in infrastructure inspection, where high spatial perception ability is required. Further advances in the research are expected to realize the mimicking and reproduction of more complex brain functions on small hardware, and the implement of highly intelligent AI technology in diverse fields.

TOKYO─Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced an advance it its gate-insulating film process technology for SiC-MOSFETs, widely seen as the core technology for next generation semiconductor power device, that cuts resistance in the channel region. Applied to actual vertical devices, the technology reduces resistance by approximately 40% against current technology, and once in practical use, it is expected to lower power loss in power inverters for cars, trains, solar cells, elevators, and devices in many other fields. Such reductions will help reduce both power consumption and CO2 emissions.
