What is GridDB?

Cyber-physical system: autonomous driving, smart grid, smart factory, smart building ...

A cyber-physical system collects various data in the physical space (real world), analyzes and knowledges it in the cyber space by making full use of large-scale data processing technology, and uses the information and value created there. We will work to revitalize the industry and solve social problems. A cyber-physical system that realizes an advanced society needs a platform that processes the huge amount of time-series data generated by the IoT in real time.

GridDB is an open database that meets the requirements for realizing a cyber-physical system.

With the features of GridDB, it is easy to build a data infrastructure that processes the huge amount of time series data generated by IoT in his real time.

GridDB is committed to open innovation to quickly build cyber physical systems. Maximize the power of the ecosystem and accelerate collaboration with leading open source software and vendors to quickly realize advanced systems. Through open community activities, we gather awareness of issues, experience and wisdom. We are creating new value.

We provide quality-guaranteed and controlled products and support for application to mission-critical systems. GridDB can be used with confidence as a database product that supports your business.

What is Time Series Data?

Time series data is a series of values with time information (time stamp) that are generally recorded at regular intervals. Specific examples of time series data include temperature recorded  every set number of minutes or the closing price of a stock at the end of each trading day.

In an Internet of Things (IoT) application, a large amount of time series data is acquired from a variety of sensors such as a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, an illuminance sensor, or an image sensor that records at intervals of a minute, a second, or even sub-second.

A database is not absolutely necessary, but the following functions are usually required:

  • Store large amounts of streaming data.
  • Handle frequent data loss and reference data inconsistencies.
  • Data can be retrieved using either a time stamp or range.
  • Able to query the data using the sensor ID as a key.

If these functions are provided the sensor data can be plotted in real time with the horizontal axis as time and used for monitoring purposes. The correlation of various sensor values within a certain time period can also be examined with various analysis methods or visualizations.

GridDB supports these functions and has unique features specialized for IoT applications and time series data functionalities that other databases do not have.
