For many years now, Toshiba has engaged in businesses that support essential social infrastructure, including power generation, water treatment and transportation. Today, the knowledge, technology and customer connections cultivated thorough these businesses are invaluable assets. We will draw on them as we continue to create previously unseen value by maximizing the power of data.
Develop the digital economy, seize on changes in the business environment, leverage the power of data
The development of the digital economy is bringing major changes to the business environment. Toshiba sees the key moving forward in (1) the idea of "Software Defined," which separates applications, software, and hardware, and which can advance DE (Digital Evolution), the digitization of the current value chain; (2) the data this provides can be utilized in DX (Digital Transformation); and then provide platforms for data utilized in DX, beyond that, (3) we will see the creation of social value from quantum technology that drives forward QX (Quantum Transformation), which will optimally connect all platforms across industries and raise the competitiveness of companies. At Toshiba, we will accelerate DE, DX and QX toward achieving carbon neutrality and the circular economy.
We see this as a time where the power of data is of crucial importance. Toshiba is maximizing and making the most of that power by focusing on industrial data and human data. With the former, we take data generated by companies operating in the fields of infrastructure and energy, analyze it with AI technology and other tools, and use it to create novel services. We also analyze the data from people who use those companies’ products and services, and apply it in creating even more valuable services. In addition, we recognize the importance of data distribution and storage, and so, also provide devices that support information infrastructure.
Quantum technology opens up, connecting markets, creating social value
QX envisages a world where quantum technology allows optimal connection of many and different platforms, beyond the framework of industry. The expectation is that, when QX is realized, we will see synergies that create social value that delivers sustainability for people and the earth. Toshiba has cultivated quantum technology for many years, and will now accelerate research and development to realize QX, and create products and services in areas such as quantum cryptography and quantum computers.
