Self-propulsion Battery System for N700S Shinkansen

N700S is the world's first high-speed train that is equipped with a self-propelled battery system. In the event of power outages, the system will allow the train to run to a safe place on its own for passenger evacuation.

SIEMENS AG

SCiB™ has been adopted by SIEMENS AG for its railway system "Mireo"

SCiB™ is used as a traction power source for Mireo, a railway system produced by SIEMENS Mobility (battery system is mannufactured by OPmobility C-Power).
Many of Europe's regional trains are operated in catenary free areas with diesel engines. But SIEMENS Mobility achieves not only zero emission of regional traffic, but also realizes high safety and long life system required for railway systems by using SCiB™ as a traction power source.

West Japan Railway Company

SCiB™ is used in the hybrid propulsion system for "TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE"

SCiB™ is adopted for hybrid propulsion system of TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE which is operated by West Japan Railway Company starting June 17, 2017. TWILIGHT EXPRESS MIZUKAZE is a new luxury sleeper train that elegantly captures the concept of
“a hotel moving through the beautiful Japanese landscape – superior quality with a touch of nostalgia.” The train is driven by electric power which is generated by a diesel engine and assisted by SCiB™. During braking, the regenerative energy is stored in SCiB™ and is later used for motor assist during acceleration. This leads to increased energy efficiency and fuel economy, thus contributing to a high environmental performance.

Actio Corporation

A storage battery system is used as the power source for a battery-driven locomotive.

Actio's battery-driven drilling locomotive operates with SCiB™.
SCiB™ is used because the new locomotive provides flat torque characteristics as well as a considerably higher pull-in torque than a conventional locomotive.

Shin-Tomoe Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

SCiB™ adopted to energy storage system of battery powered locomotive.

Shin-Tomoe's battery powered locomotive operates with SCiB™.
This locomotive is used to towing the freight car for tunnel construction.
This new system achieved to shorten charging time dramatically, and also improved charging efficiency of regenerative power in comparison to conventional battery system.
In addition, it is free from maintenance such as distilled water refills or ventilation during charging.

Hybrid propulsion ship

Utashima, a steel freight ship, is Japan’s first hybrid freight coaster using lithium-ion batteries.
During normal cruising, lithium-ion batteries are charged with the electricity generated by the main engine in the high-efficiency region. When the ship needs to run for a short distance, for example, in a port, it turns off the main engine and runs on battery energy, thereby contributing to the realization of zero-carbon ports.
* Owned by Mukaishima Dock and operated by NS United Naiko Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd.

Damen Shipyards

SCiB™ has been adopted by Damen Shipyards for the electric ferry

SCiB™ is used as the power source for the electric ferry which is designed and built by Damen Shipyards (Damen Ferry 2306E3). The battery system has acquired the DNV-GL standard of the ship certification body, which means not only reduces pollution due to exhaust gas and fuel cost of ships but also it has been evaluated as a highly reliable battery system.

Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology

Raicho N, a hybrid electric boat, utilizes SCiB™.

Toshiba's SCiB™ rechargeable battery is deployed on Raicho N, a hybrid boat with a rapid charging system that was built as part of research and development of battery-operated boats.
