We aim to contribute to the broader use of Heavy ion therapy equipment through further technology development
Toshiba will continue efforts to create innovations with the aim of providing new values to patients and customers.
Efforts of further downsizing
By incorporating superconducting technologies into the rotating gantry for Heavy ion therapy, we achieved in significantly size reduction and delivered the first equipment to NIRS. Due to the fact that the conventional scanning irradiation equipment was as long as 9m, we still had the challenge of further downsizing of rotating gantry. Through the collaborative research with NIRS, we have successfully reduced the size of scanning irradiation nozzle to as long as 3.5m. By utilizing the new scanning irradiation equipment, we have succeeded in approximately 40% size reduction compared to our first rotating gantry. We aim to realize the world's smallest rotating gantry and apply it to commercial available Heavy ion therapy equipment.
