Kawasaki, Japan – Toshiba Corporation has completed the delivery and installation of advanced “TT‑2000” flat and letter sorting machines to Post of Slovenia (Pošta Slovenije d.o.o.), Slovenia’s national postal operator. Post of Slovenia celebrated the official start of operation of the TT‑2000 at the Ljubljana Sorting Center, the country’s largest and most important sorting center, with a ceremony on February 26 attended by Ivana Vrviščar, member of the Executive Management, Post of Slovenia; Peter Milinović, Director of Technology, Network and Logistics, Post of Slovenia; Akiko Yoshida, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Slovenia; Yasunari Ueno, Director of International Affairs Office, Postal Services Policy Department, Information and Communications Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan; and Iwao Tsuji, Corporate Vice President of Toshiba Corporation.

The TT‑2000 is designed and engineered to support postal services that must deal with large volumes of mixed mail - both letters and flats mail - with fast, accurate sorting capabilities. Toshiba pioneered the application of optical character recognition technology in postal systems in the 1960s, and the TT‑2000 uses the latest generation of this advanced, proprietary technology to read addresses and sort items by postal code, district, or delivery sequence. The system can handle a wide range of postal formats, (from 140 mm × 90 mm up to 330 mm × 254 mm) enabling mixed mail sorting and has a maximum throughput of 40,000 items per hour.

Like many other postal services, Post of Slovenia must address two pressing issues in its mail delivery service: aging sorting equipment, and increased sorting efficiency. It ordered the TT‑2000 in 2024, with the goal of improving sorting efficiency by bringing high-speed processing for both letters and flats mail, even when sorted together (mixed), while also making efficient use of available floor space.

The TT‑2000 flat and letter sorting machines are now in full operation

Toshiba and Post of Slovenia have built a strong relationship in mail logistics. The TT‑2000 is the third project Toshiba has delivered to the Ljubljana Sorting Center in recent years, following a parcel sorter that can handle items as heavy as 31.5 kilograms, and a packet sorter designed to accommodate the recent surge in small parcels driven by e-commerce. These systems have made significant contributions to improving the center’s sorting operations, and are highly regarded for their functionality, performance, and operational stability.

“Our third delivery to Slovenia reflects a trusted partnership and our commitment to supporting customers as their operational needs evolve,” said Iwao Tsuji, Corporate Vice President of Toshiba Corporation. “With the TT‑2000 now in full operation, the Ljubljana Sorting Center can process mixed mail more efficiently and reliably—benefits that many postal operators are seeking as they look to modernize and strengthen their networks.”

With expertise shaped by pioneering innovation in the decades since the 1960s, Toshiba remains committed to delivering postal and logistics solutions tailored to the distinct operational requirements and postal landscapes of countries throughout Eastern Europe, Asia, and other markets.
