TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation today announced that it has been recognized as an “A List” company for both “Climate Change” and “Water Security” in the 2024 assessment conducted by CDP, a global environmental non-profit organization. This is the first time Toshiba has achieved the highest rating in both categories at the same time.

CDP operates a global disclosure system that enables companies, capital markets, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. Each year, CDP assesses the environmental disclosures submitted through its platform. In 2024, more than 24,800 companies worldwide, including over 2,100 companies in Japan, disclosed their environmental information through CDP.

Guided by its corporate philosophy, “Committed to People, Committed to the Future.,” Toshiba Group positions environmental initiatives as one of its top management priorities. With “Environmental Future Vision 2050,” the statement of its long-term environmental goals, the company is advancing efforts to create enriched value and to ensure harmony with the earth.

Regarding climate change initiatives, Toshiba Group is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout its entire value chain by fiscal year 2050. This long-term target, along with the Group’s interim targets for fiscal year 2030, has been approved as a “net-zero target” (*1)  by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The Group’s comprehensive initiatives to meet these targets were key factors in its CDP recognition.

The Group also provides a diverse portfolio of solutions that contribute to reducing society’s overall GHG emissions. These include renewable energy-related products, energy aggregation services, and CO2 separation and capture systems. The Group has also developed energy-efficient social infrastructure products and office equipment, power semiconductors and batteries that improve device efficiency, as well as digital solutions that enhance operational efficiency and lower energy consumption.

Regarding water security, Toshiba Group assesses and analyzes water-related risks that impact its business operations, and works to mitigate water-related issues at its production sites including water resource shortages and pollution risks. The Group also expands its offerings of products and services that help mitigate water risks across society. In addition, the Group develops and provides water treatment solutions that tackle increasing water shortages and pollution in the cities of emerging economies, contributing to the establishment of sustainable water circulation systems and the development of environmentally advanced communities. All of these comprehensive efforts were recognized in CDP’s assessment.
