Toshiba a Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovator for the Eleventh Consecutive Year

March 01, 2022

TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) is once again on the Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovators 2022, the annual listing of the world’s most innovative companies published by Clarivate, a global information services company.

Introduced in 2012, as the Top 100 Global Innovators report, the Clarivate listing is now an internationally recognized yardstick for corporate creativity. Toshiba featured in the first list, and today is one of a very select group that has made the cut every year, for eleven years in a row.

Clarivate applies multiple criteria in the data-driven analysis used to draw up the list: the influence, success, globalization, and technical distinctiveness of companies and organizations that meet a threshold level of international patent applications. The candidates are then narrowed down to the world's 100 most innovative companies and organizations; those that protect original inventions with IP rights and take them through to commercialization.

"It is a great honor to receive the Clarivate Top100 Global Innovators 2022 award for the 11th consecutive year. We really appreciate this high evaluation of our technology and IP,” said Hideaki Ishii, an Executive Officer and Corporate Senior Vice President of Toshiba. “Motivated by the Group’s Basic Commitment, ‘Committed to People, Committed to the Future.’ we will leverage cyber-physical system technologies to create differentiated devices, components, systems, and infrastructure services that drive innovation in social and information infrastructure. We are determined to contribute to society’s evolution by advancing carbon neutrality and infrastructure resilience, and to support our customers in overcoming the issues they face.”

In the Standards of Conduct for Toshiba Group, guideline for employees in their daily activities, Toshiba Group defines basic policies on respect for IP rights:

-       To comply with all applicable laws and regulations associated with patent law, copyright law and other intellectual property rights laws

-       To protect the results of intellectual activities with intellectual property rights, make extensive use of those rights

-       To respect the legitimate intellectual property rights of third parties

Going forward, Toshiba will make proactive use of IP to maximize corporate value. It will continue to strengthen intellectual property capabilities and to deploy support strategies for its technologies and products.
