24 Feb, 2021

TOKYO―Toshiba Corporation’s (TOKYO: 6502) long-standing dedication to driving forward technological innovation has once again secured its selection for the Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovators, the annual listing of the world’s most innovative companies published by Clarivate, the U.K.-based global information services company.

The annual Top 100 Global Innovators report was introduced in 2012, and it quickly established itself as an internationally recognized yardstick for assessing corporate creativity. Toshiba featured in the first list, and today is one of a select group that has made the list every year, for ten years in a row.

Clarivate arrives at the list by applying its solutions to analysis of four criteria for intellectual property: volume, success, globalization, and influence. The results go beyond patent filings to consider success in patent grants and filings for inventions, and recognize companies and institutions worldwide that have commercialized and received patent protection for ingenious innovations. This time, Toshiba received high marks under the criteria of globalization and success.

Toshiba Group’s basic policy on intellectual property rights is grounded in a commitment to cutting-edge research, protection of innovations, and making full and effective use of IP rights, while fully respecting the legitimate intellectual property rights of third parties.

“It is a great honor to be named one of the Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovators 2021, and even more so to make the list for ten years in a row,” said Hideaki Ishii, Toshiba’s Executive Officer, Corporate Vice President. “We very much appreciate this high evaluation of our technology and IP. Motivated by the Group’s basic commitment, ‘Committed to People, Committed to the Future.’ we will continue to drive forward technological innovation and strive to solve social issues by providing customers with CPS technology and intellectual property created through R&D.”

Toshiba will continue to contribute to value creation promoting optimal IP strategies that reflect the business environment and maximize the use of R&D results.
