Toshiba's SCiBTM Rechargeable Battery Selected for Nissan's ROOX
TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that Nissan Motor Corporation has selected its innovative SCiB™ lithium-ion rechargeable battery for the latest generation of its ROOX and ROOX Highway STAR cars. The battery will be integrated into the recuperation battery system supplied to Nissan by Marelli Corporation.
The smart simple hybrid of Nissan’s ROOX and ROOX Highway STAR is a mild hybrid system that harvests kinetic energy during deceleration to charge the SCiB™, which drives an electric motor that assists the engine—and reduces gasoline consumption—during vehicle start, acceleration and moving from idling.
The characteristics of the SCiB™ make it a superb choice for Nissan’s new cars. The battery’s lithium titanium oxide negative electrode excels in rapid charging performance, long life and high energy input and output, all characteristic highly suited for start-stop and mild hybrid systems. These same qualities also won the SCiB™ selection for Nissan’s Dayz and Dayz Highway STAR, which were released last year.
Toshiba Group has positioned the SCiB™ as a new growth business under the Toshiba Next Plan, Toshiba Group's five-year transformation plan. Toshiba Group will continue to strengthen its battery business, taking advantages of the characteristics of the SCiB™.
