The TCP-6000 will be exhibited at CeBIT '96 from March 14 (Thu.) to 20 (Wed.) in Hannover, Germany. Since its launch in Europe in 1992, GSM has fast gained acceptance as a global standard for digital mobile communications. Already in use in over 80 countries throughout Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle-East and Africa, GSM-based systems now have over 10 million subscribers -- a number expected to exceed 50 million worldwide by as soon as 2000. TCP-6000 was co-developed by Toshiba and Hagenuk Telecom GmbH, Germany, under a joint development agreement signed in April, 1994. Manufacturing of the phone will be undertaken by Hagenuk at its Kiel facility in Germany. Extensive co-development work has succeeded in developing a truly user-friendly telephone incorporating a number of unique features:
Toshiba is a major player in the mobile telephone business. The company supplies AMPS phones to the North American and South-east Asian markets, and analog TACS phones and digital PDC phones to the Japanese market. With the introduction of its new GSM phone to the European market, the company will assure its worldwide presence in all major mobile telephone markets.
