| Toshiba Introduces the World's Largest Capacity 2.5-inch HDD 10 April, 1995 TOKYO -- Toshiba Corporation today announced it will start marketing two new 2.5-inch hard disk drives (HDD) offering the world's largest storage capacity in this form factor: the MK2720F, a 19mm high, 1.35 gigabyte (GB) drive, achieves the highest capacity of any 2.5-inch HDD; the MK1926F, is a 12.7mm high super-slim drive with an 815 megabyte (MB) capacity -- the highest of capacity of any super-slim HDD. Both new models offer a choice of Fast ATA or SCSI-2 interface. Sample shipment starts today, at a price of 150,000 yen for the MK2720F and 100,000 yen for the MK1926F. The introduction of the new models extends Toshiba's line-up of 19mm high HDD to 7 models: 213, 340, 528, 704, 810MB, 1.08GB and 1.35GB. Its line- up of 12.7mm high super-slim HDD now runs to 6 models: 131, 213, 262, 352, 540 and 815MB. The world market for 2.5-inch HDD is growing rapidly and expected record growth of some 28% in fiscal year 1994, up to approximately 230 billion yen by value. A growth rate of 17%, to 270 billion yen, is forecast for fiscal year 1995. The popularity of small, light portable computers is stimulating demand for HDDs that combine high storage capacity with excellent performance, small dimensions and light weight. Toshiba's new drives set new standards in the two main segments of the market.
