Maximizing Battery Productivity: 6-Minute Super Quick Charging, 20k-Cycle Batteries: Bankable High-Utilization Systems for ASEAN
Date:2026.8.20 9:00 am - 9:30 pm
Speaker:Haruchika Ishii
Overview:As ASEAN accelerates its transition to electrified mobility and industry, the region faces a defining question: how can battery systems deliver not only clean power, but bankable, high-utilization economics that make electrification financially sustainable at scale? This plenary presents a strategic framework centred on maximizing battery productivity — the total value a battery generates over its working life — rather than minimizing upfront cost alone.Drawing on Toshiba’s SCiB™ lithium-titanate technology, the talk examines how two intrinsic characteristics — 6-minute super-quick charging and a service life exceeding 20,000 cycles — reshape the economics of fleet and industrial operations. Rapid charging enables near-continuous asset utilization, while ultra-long cycle life underpins predictable, financeable lifecycle costs and emerging leasing and subscription (Battery-as-a-Service) models that lower the barrier to adoption for operators. The framework is illustrated by the Putrajaya EV bus revival in Malaysia, offered as an early proof point, with detailed operational results presented in the companion session by Elektromodula. The talk concludes with a call to build an integrated, bankable ASEAN battery value chain that converts high-utilization technology into lasting regional industrial competitiveness.
