Products and Services
Toshiba provides QKD system hardward, quantum key management system software (Q-KMS), and professional services to support their implementation and maintenance.
Hardware Products
Toshiba offers two advanced QKD system variants to meet a wide range of network requirements:
Multiplexed QKD System: Designed to operate alongside conventional data on the same optical fiber, this solution enables secure key distribution without the need for dedicated infrastructure, optimizing both cost and efficiency.
Long-Distance QKD System: Engineered for high key rate and extended transmission range, this system is ideal for high-performance, long-haul quantum networks.
Lineup
Multiplexed QKD System
The Multiplexed QKD system allows operation on data carrying fiber, thereby removing the requirement for costly dark fiber. It uses a quantum channel with wavelength in the telecom O-Band, leaving the C-band free for customer traffic. It can operate in the conventional mode with a fiber pair carrying uni-direction traffic, or with a single fiber carrying bi-direction quantum and classical signals.
Key features:
- Typical key rate : 300 kb/s for 10 dB loss
- Maximum Range (ideal SM fibre): 90km+
- Fiber requirement : single or dual fibers
- Option to multiplex data in C-band
- Efficient BB84 protocol with decoy states and phase encoding
- Key failure probability of less than 10-10 equivalent to less than once in 30,000 years
- Proprietary self-differencing semiconductor detectors
Key features:
- Typical key rate : 40 kb/s for 10 dB loss
- Range of up to 70km
- Fiber requirement : single or dual fibers
- Option to multiplex data in C-band
- Efficient BB84 protocol with decoy states and phase encoding
- Key failure probability of less than 10-10 equivalent to less than once in 30,000 years

Long Distance QKD System
The Long Distance QKD System operates with a quantum channel in the telecom C-band for the longest possible range and highest possible secure key rate. It can tolerate limited bandwidths of multiplexed data within the C-band.
Key Features:
- Typical key rate = 300 kb/s for 10dB loss
- Maximum Range (ideal SM fibre): 150km+
- Two fibers required

Software Products
Toshiba’s Quantum Key Management System (Q-KMS) is a robust software platform built to scale QKD networks with ease and efficiency.
Q-KMS enables secure key routing between any connected locations across the QKD infrastructure, making large-scale, quantum-safe communication practical and efficient. It supports key delivery through standard APIs, including ETSI and SKIP*, to ensure seamless integration with existing network environments.
- ETSI(European Telecommunications Standards Institute)
SKIP (Secure Key Integration Protocol) proposed by Cisco Systems Inc. and QuSecure, Inc. to IETF(Internet Engineering Task Force)
Q-KMS
Q-KMS is software installed in a server at each site. It connects to QKD system, receives encryption keys, communicates between sites via IP network and shares keys.
It features;
Key distribution;
- to support QKD and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)
- to extend quantum-secure communications to sites even where QKD system is not directly connected
Key storage;
- to store keys to ensure key supply continuity while QKD system is down
Key provision;
- to perform low latency/high throughput
- to support major interfaces (ETSI, SKIP*)
Operation Management;
- to feature configuration management, capacity management, incident management, service level management
